At the center of the mystery is David Browne, a junior congressional aide who should never have mattered to events of global consequence. But one careless experiment with a cutting-edge artificial intelligence program opens a door humanity was never meant to unlock–a bridge between realities.

As world leaders scramble to avoid catastrophe, David discovers a terrifying truth: the visitors are not aliens in the traditional sense.
